Specialisms

As a theatre practitioner with us, you’ll be working as part of a dedicated and diverse team using the most advanced equipment, including GlideScope, Optiflow and Liddco. We also offer unparalleled training and career progression. Specifically, we recruit into the following areas:

Scrub

You’ll assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients undergoing surgical procedures as well as actively helping us to maintain the kind of pristine environment that will enable us to deliver the very best patient care.

Anaesthetics

Working as part of a team, you’ll ensure we always deliver exceptional care and safety for patients in the theatre unit. As part of that, you’ll make sure there is good communication between doctors, patients, relatives and visitors.

Recovery

You’ll provide high quality clinical care to patients following surgical procedures as well as preparing the recovery area so it’s ready to admit patients after surgical procedures. As well as that, you’ll make sure we work to the best standards.

Working as a theatre practitioner at HCA UK

You’ll be supporting complex procedures for a diverse range of conditions, from cardiac to oncology-related illnesses. It’s a chance to work on the most modern, life-saving treatments – for example, we were first in the UK to use specialist technology to treat previously inoperable tumours.

Working environment

Across the group, we have over 30 highly organised and well-equipped theatres specialising in surgery for adults, children and infants. Our hospitals are consistently the first in the UK to adopt the most advanced surgical technology available.

Our Technology

Our hospitals are consistently the first to adopt cutting-edge technologies. In theatre, these include: the NanoKnife®, a non-invasive alternative to surgery for patients with inoperable or complex tumours; the da Vinci© Surgical System, an advanced robot which mimics the surgeon’s hand and wrist movements; and the MAKOplasty robotic arm for precision orthopaedic procedures.

Working in the theatre

At HCA UK, you’ll be empowered to deliver care you can be proud of in an environment that’s been designed with quality front of mind.

Shift information

Monday to Saturday 7.00am-9.00pm, with five short shifts per week. We’re committed to offering our people real flexibility, so you’ll always have a say in the hours you work.

Our work patterns are designed to fit around you, whether you want to work full-time, part-time, annualised hours or term-time.

Training and progression

To be at your best, you need to have the most up-to-date knowledge. That’s why we’ll continually invest in your training and development.

You’ll be offered the chance to complete funded courses to advance your career alongside our internal training and mentoring. For scrub and recovery practitioners, this includes support towards an anaesthetist’s qualification.

Whatever stage you’re at in your career, you will also benefit from sector-leading training opportunities at our in-house Learning and Simulation centre.

International candidates

Just like our patients, our colleagues come to us from all over the world. We’re happy to provide sponsorship for overseas candidates as long as the role you’ve been recruited for meets the requirements set by the Home Office.

Relocation assistance

If your new role involves relocating to the UK, we can provide relocation assistance. The level and kind of support we are able to offer will depend on your personal circumstances, and will be discussed with you during the selection process.

Return to Practice

If your Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) PIN has expired, our new Return to Practice programme will help you get back into nursing. We’ll cover your fees to attend university and you’ll be given a part-time role during the programme, plus a permanent role once you’ve completed it.
