Role: Biomedical Scientist - Blood Transfusion
Site: London, HCA Laboratories (Shropshire House)
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: 7.5 hour shifts Monday-Friday with weekend rota participation also required
Contract Type: One Year Fixed Term Contract

HCA Laboratories has over 35 years’ experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.
As a Biomedical Scientist in Transfusion you will be responsible for the speedy and accurate processing of group and save samples, the interpretation and validation of results including antibody panels, crossmatching and red cell phenotyping.
This is a full-time role working 37.5 hour per week and the salary being offered is competitive dependent on skills and experience. This is a BMS 1 position (Band 6 equivalent).
The weekday shift times are:
08.00am – 13.00pm and 08.00 -20.30pm (extra payment).
Duties and Responsibilities
Speedy and accurate processing of samples
Interpretation, validation and timely reporting of results
Monitor and enter results from referral laboratories
Participate in the Transfusion Week End Rota
Deal with telephone enquires
Assist Section Leader and BMS 3 / 2 with the day to day running of Transfusion Sections
Ensure equipment is maintained and working correctly
Stock control and rotation
HCPC Registered
Must have the BBTS certificate
Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
