Role: Matron – Complex Surgery
Location –Princess Grace Hospital, W1
Permanent and Full-time 37.5 hours per week

About the Role
The Matron is a pivotal role within Princess Grace Hospital. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership and direction for our Complex Surgery nursing team.
They will be an exemplary role model with the ability to support teams in the delivery of outstanding clinical care and a culture of continuous improvement. To ensure this happens, the successful candidate will consistently and proactively lead best practice to ensure that excellence permeates every level of the facility.
We are seeking applicants that are highly professional clinical leaders or existing Matrons, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and unequivocal commitment to improving patient, carer and staff experience. You will inherit a team with a good structure, caring for patients with urology, gynae, colorectal surgical, intestinal failure, ENT inpatients surgical needs.
If successful in the role of Matron, you will have 24-hour accountability for the management and oversight of all patients within the facility, promoting excellence as standard. The role is key in promoting a nurturing environment for patients, relatives, visitors and staff through monitoring, measuring, actioning and evaluating service delivery, advocating for patients at all times.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Act as a role model for nurses in the designated clinical area, promoting and demonstrating the standards of care and behaviour expected and at all times exhibiting high standards of professional conduct
- Recognise clinical issues/problems and take early action as appropriate
- Provide effective line management to ward managers, sisters and senior staff nurses within the service providing guidance, support and coaching and through them ensure that all nursing staff within the service are appropriately managed, ensuring that associated financial resources are controlled and utilised effectively, demonstrating value for money and high quality patient care.
- Devise quality improvement plans as required – Complaints, incidents, audits, patient and staff experience
- Develop effective and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders on the unit including consultants and funding bodies
- Support the teams in ensuring that the rehabilitation pathway is followed, that timelines are followed and effective discharge planning takes place
- Participate in clinical audit at local, group and national level. Ensure audits are effective by action planning findings and effecting improvements in patient care/experience
Skills & Experience:
- NMC registered Nurse
- Senior clinical experience within inpatients surgical
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrative leadership skills
- Ability to successfully negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders
