An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and well-motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with previous experience in a Specialist/Senior Biomedical Science role in Histology/Histopathology.
Reporting directly into the Technical Services Manager, you will bring excellent communication and personnel skills and be able to lead and work effectively as part of a team, as well having extensive Cellular Pathology experience.
Backlogs is a fast-growing business and is a wholly owned subsidiary of HCA Healthcare UK. Backlogs provides a remote cellular pathology reporting service for NHS Hospitals, working with over 40 Trusts and is supported by 110 Consultants throughout the UK.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- To oversee the delivery of training in their assigned department(s), ensuring training is supervised or delivered by appropriately trained, competent and qualified staff.
- To monitor training compliance for staff within the designated area of the laboratory. In collaboration with the laboratory manager and senior team, to ensure staff members complete statutory and mandatory training, and laboratory training and competency assessments as required for their role.
- To be a member of the HCA Laboratories Training Committee and attend Training Committee meetings. To communicate relevant information to and from these meetings, appropriate to their department
- Maintain the overall training and competency documentation
- Process improvement and incident & complaint management.
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis, including supporting other departments in the business to complete investigations appropriately, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are effective.
- Work with suppliers (clinical and non-clinical ) to identify the root cause of issues
- Provide training for staff undertaking quality related activities, as required. (e.g., training in performing audits and root cause investigation.
- If required to work on a one to one basis with members of the team to support their understanding and development, such that error is reduced from within their role
- Gain a full understanding of the end to end process within the business, and as such be able to carry out any investigations from a position of understanding the tasks within the organization
- To lead the training and development program of new starters
- To perform any other duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with grade and experience. This may include working at other sites (London Head office, or at client sites)
- Comply with local and national policies (including ISO/IEC 27001) for the safe, secure and confidential processing and management of patient and other information
Skills and Experience
- Postgraduate level qualification equivalent to MSc in Cell Path
- Current HCPC registration
- Current experience in a diagnostic Cell Path laboratory
- Excellent communication
