This is an exciting opportunity to join HCA Healthcare growing Cancer Centre of Excellence, as the Head of Medical Physics.  In this role you will provide managerial leadership and support to the Medical Physics services in each area across the group whilst advising on strategies on forecasting on areas such as technology within Radiotherapy.. As the Head of Medical Physics, you will also be involved in overseeing outsourced servicing that are through SLA. 

As the SME, you will also be responsible for ensuring compliance to relevant regulatory legislation, such as CQC, IRMER, IRR, H&S executive and Environment Agency.

Duties:

  • To integrate the Medical Physics teams across HCA UK in a supportive and collaborative manner and take overall responsibility for the operational management of Medical Physics services.
  • To be appointed and act as Group Medical Physics Expert as defined by the latest IR(ME)R regulations
  • Act as the key author and set the group direction in Radiation safety policies, support in their rollout, audit and be an active member all corporate radiation protection committee meetings
  • Collate and oversee all investigations regarding radiation safety, ensure learnings are disseminated across relevant departments across HCA UK
  • To provide line management of Medical Physics managers. This may include, but is not limited to: performance appraisals, performance management, setting and monitoring of personal objectives, and pastoral support.

What you’ll bring:

  • Masters degree in relevant scientific, technical, or healthcare related discipline
  • HCPC registration
  • Management of diverse teams
  • Specification and implementation of new equipment and commissioning
  • Project management
  • Experience of multiple radiotherapy platforms and technologies (Linac, SRS, brachytherapy, molecular radiotherapy, etc.) 
  • Advanced theoretical & practical knowledge of ionising radiation and radiotherapy physics
  • Preparation of business cases for new equipment 
  • Coaching of staff and budget responsibility
  • Working knowledge of appropriate legislation (e.g. EPR, IRR, IRMER)
  • In depth knowledge of UK dosimetry codes of practice 

Desirable:

  • Radiation protection experience with practical knowledge of therapy room design and shielding
  • Experience of MR Linac technology
