We’re looking for a Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our team at The Portland Hospital currently rated “Good” by the CQC .

Internationally renowned for clinical excellence, The Portland Hospital is the only independent hospital in the UK entirely dedicated to women and children. Our inpatient and outpatient specialties reflect this, providing clinical expertise in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Women`s Health.

Our Paediatric wards hold 56 inpatient beds + 11 day case and are equipped with the latest technology to provide advanced medical and surgical care, including a Paediatric Neurorehabilitation Unit and a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit which reflects the acuity and complex nature of the children who are admitted to our hospital. The Portland Hospital has a large number of international Paediatric patients, often funded by relevant embassies.

The role of the Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist post will primarily involve the assessment and treatment of your own clinical caseload of Inpatients covering a wide variety of diagnoses including but not restricted to; children on the neurorehab unit, acute ICU, orthopaedics and developmental care in the cardiac unit. Patients are seen and managed with the larger MDT as we foster a strong MDT ethic in the department. Although this role is predominantly inpatient based, there will be an expectation that the candidate will assist with the management of the outpatient caseload as and when needed. Band 6 therapists will be supported through a rotation period of working in both inpatient and outpatient departments to foster holistic clinical skills. At the Portland we are passionate about service development and this role will include assisting the Clinical Lead and Advanced Occupational Therapists with service development projects.


What you’ll bring:

  • BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent).
  • Current registered member of Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Paediatrics in a clinical setting, such as an inpatient clinic or hospital. Previous hospital and acute experience or exposure is beneficial.
  • Knowledge and application of paediatric OT assessments and interventions relevant to a paediatric client group.
  • Experience working with an inpatient caseload with varying knowledge and experience with different conditions and diagnoses.
  • Ability to work in a larger MDT (AHPs and Medical staff).
