Role: Resident Doctor – Obstetrics
Location: London, The Portland Hospital
Shift Times: 12 hours per week
Contract: Fixed-Term, 6 months (Immediate Start)

We are seeking an experienced and specialist-trained doctor to join us as a Resident Doctor on a part-time, fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave at The Portland Hospital, part of the renowned HCA Healthcare UK group.

As the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK, The Portland Hospital prides itself on delivering exceptional safety, quality, and service to all women. With around 1,400 deliveries each year, our ethos centers on empowering women to take control of their maternity care, all while maintaining the highest standards of healthcare quality and safety.

Resident Doctors at The Portland Hospital work independently within their scope of practice, reviewing and treating a wide range of obstetric and gynaecological conditions. You will also formulate care plans under the supervision of the Named Consultant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, and multidisciplinary teams to monitor and manage patient care, ensuring effective communication with the Consultant(s).
  • Conduct clinical assessments, particularly in recognizing deteriorating patients and implementing required interventions.
  • Lead the labour ward in emergency situations and in the absence of the Consultant Obstetrician, including initiating delivery through instrumental or emergency LSCS.
  • Provide emergency resuscitation as needed.

What You’ll Bring:

  • GMC Registration with License to Practice in the UK.
  • MBBS qualification with significant post-qualification experience and training in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • A passion for teamwork and patient-centered care, with the ability to share best practices and provide a first-class patient experience.
  • Competency in managing a wide range of obstetric and gynaecological conditions, including performing difficult deliveries, instrumental deliveries, emergency LSCS, and surgery for obstetric and gynaecological emergencies (e.g., PPH).
  • Competency in managing obstetric and gynaecological patients, including prescribing medications and facilitating discussions with patients and their families.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or an equivalent recognized qualification and proficiency in resuscitation, airway management, defibrillation, and initiating treatment in high-dependency or critical care settings.
