We’re looking for a Medical Lab Assistant to join our Sarah Cannon Research Institute team, currently rated “Good” by the CQC.

The Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) is a world-leading clinical trials facility specialising in the development of new therapies such as targeted and precision medication for cancer patients, our clinical trial portfolio is expanding and we are currently seeking highly motivated individuals to provide support to our onsite laboratory.

SCRI UK was established in 2010 being the first site outside of the US to deliver first in human oncology clinical trials to our patients. As the research arm of HCA's global cancer institute, we are the first UK trials unit outside of the NHS that has the ability to offer new anti-cancer drugs in clinical trials. We currently have over 35 actively recruiting clinical trials and have helped over 1000 patients enrol on a clinical trial with us to date. By bringing together the best medical minds with the most passionate caregivers, we are transforming care and personalising treatment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Clinical team in the delivery of clinical services provided by SCRI
  • Processing and shipping of blood samples
  • Participate in the effective and efficient running of Lab at all times, helping out in other areas as and when needed
  • Be responsible for data quality and complying with the IT policies, procedures and accountability arrangements throughout the company for maintaining accuracy and probity in the recording of the company’s activities.
  • Be accountable for administrative side of the job including areas such as filing, bookings, auditing and reporting
  • To perform and participate in those cleaning measures and protocols that are in place in order to keep the risks of contamination to an absolute minimum and also to ensure that the laboratory operates as safely and efficiently as possible.
  • Coordinate the collection of any biological samples required as part of the clinical trial/study and ensure safe and appropriate storage of specimens, in conjunction with local nursing teams
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act

Skills, Education & Experience

  • Minimum qualification of a diploma in Life Science subject or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a diagnostic laboratory
  • Experience in basic sample processing including pipetting and  centrifugation of various human specimens
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Strong team player, able to work with colleagues of varying levels of seniority
