Full time permanent: 37.5hrs per week

We’re looking for an Advanced Band 7 Physiotherapist to join The Portland Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC. 

The Portland Hospital is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children. We're the UK's largest private children's hospital with over 46 paediatric beds including a 10-bed intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, and a day-case unit. Caring for over 40,000 children a year, we provide treatment for everything from general paediatric conditions to complex cardiac conditions. We have over 175 paediatric consultants available to treat children from new-born up to the age of 18. 

Job Description 

As an Advanced Paediatric Physiotherapist, you will enjoy the challenge of using your highly 

specialised Paediatric Physiotherapy skills in an outpatient setting. You will be able to accurately and efficiently assess, diagnose, and treat a wide variety of presentations in babies and children including: Developmental assessments for under 5s, follow-up assessments for premature babies, as well as covering common MSK presentations in young children such as torticollis, DDH,toe-walking and Ponseti follow-up. There will also be follow-up required post elective orthopaedic / neuro-ortho surgery. 

You will be confident working independently and alongside other members of the MDT ensuring child-centred care and involving the family and carers in the rehabilitation process. The role will require confident professional written and verbal communication, as there will be liaison with referrers, medical professionals and external agencies routinely required.  

Alongside a varied outpatient caseload, the role will include being part of the wider Portland Physiotherapy team, there may be a need to cover or support the Ponseti / serial casting service, SDR or Acute-developmental services according to service need.

What you’ll bring: 

  • To be able to undertake comprehensive outpatient assessments of paediatric patients, appropriate to the age and level of the child. Including those with diverse or complex pathology/presentations using expert clinical reasoning, observation, and manual assessment skills to provide an accurate physiotherapy diagnosis and understanding of their condition 

  • Formulate and implement an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, appropriate and accurate clinical reasoning, and knowledge of appropriate treatments e.g. physiotherapy techniques, patient education, splinting, exercise equipment, hydrotherapy and other alternative options. 

  • Evaluate patient progress, reassess and progress or alter patient treatment programs within the appropriate timeframes 

  • Provide physiotherapy intervention where there may be barriers to understanding such as foreign language or due to speech/hearing/visual impairment, cognitive/perceptual difficulties 

  • To be able to provide clinical support to more junior members of staff and across other areas of the hospital, including Orthopaedic surgery, SDR, and acute-developmental caseload. 

  • To maintain accurate, up-to-date and concise treatment records detailing the individual patient’s treatment plan and progress. 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive discharge reports and recommendations in conjunction with other multidisciplinary team members where appropriate. 

  • To ensure that physiotherapy sessions are commenced on time and patients are charged appropriately for their treatment. 

  • To work flexibly to the needs of the service and to participate in the out of hours weekend and standby service as required. 

Skills and experience 

  • Be registered with the HCPC 

  • Degree in Physiotherapy 

  • Highly specialist experience in 0-5 Neurodevelopmental Assessment and MSK outpatients 

  • Experience of NICU / follow-up of premature babies desirable 

  • Experience working within in-patient and out-patient settings within an acute hospital 

  • Experience working across other disciplines within physiotherapy e.g rotations
