Clinical Duties

· To provide a high standard of patient care with Intensive Care cover, as part of a rota with 24-7

acute service, routine and emergency care, during hours of duty

· To assess and manage critical care patients, including those with multiorgan failure, requiring

cardiopulmonary support including intubation, ventilation and management of arrythmias under

guidance of the Consultant in Charge. At some HCA sites with specialist units (London Bridge,

Wellington and Harley Street Clinic), Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgical intensive care management

will be required.

· To lead and assist with new admissions, inpatient consultations including acute pain, ward referrals and provide senior Resident Doctor support for ward doctors/senior nurses/other clinical areas as needed, under guidance of the Consultant in Charge

· To work collaboratively with specialist consultants, nursing professionals and members of the multidisciplinary team to provide excellence in patient care, maintain a high standard of work and uphold the professional image of HCA Healthcare UK

· To carry out a comprehensive handover from outgoing RD to incoming RD at each shift change and to maintain a high standard of accurate documentation on electronic patient records and any paper notes

· To comply with hospital policies and procedures to maintain a safe and professional working environment.

· To undertake certain medical procedures as required including vascular access eg. insertion of central venous catheter/vascaths, insertion of arterial lines, intubation, management of tracheostomies, chest/abdominal drain insertion, lumbar puncture, management of acute pain/epidural catheters, use of ultrasound, ventilation management etc, medical escort for transfer of ventilated patients in the hospital or occasionally interhospital/external transfers as required

· To provide airway management and team leadership as part of the hospital emergency response team, and to provide any urgent medical attention to staff and visitors until the person is admitted under a Consultant or transferred to an NHS facility

· To contribute to clinical governance and quality assurance activities of the hospital, audit, morbidity/mortality meetings, etc to ensure better and safer practice and engage in teaching MDT colleagues Working in collaboration with staffing groups

· Close working collaboration with the ICU Consultants; pharmacy, therapy and nursing teams; surgical fellows; and other ward resident doctors (e.g. General, Cardiology)
