Location: The Wellington Hospital, The Wellington Hospital, Wellington Place, London, NW8 9LE

Hours:  37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday

We’re looking for a GI Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Wellington Team, currently rated “Good” by the CQC.
 

As the GI Clinical Nurse Specialist, provide specialist nursing advice as clinical expert to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients /patients, relatives/carers requiring GI surgery in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets. This will be both inside and outside the Organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To independently carry an ongoing caseload of patients, working with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate care for patients having GI surgery
  • To act as patient advocate to actively apply in depth knowledge of holistic/socio-economic and cultural aspects of the care to clients within your specific speciality, acting as a role model and resource for patients, relatives and staff
  • Actively integrate theory and practice
  • Acts as a key worker for a clinical caseload, working to coordinate care and provide easy access for on-going support for patients
  • Act as an ambassador demonstrating effective communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and managers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Co-ordinate patient care across the pathway, developing the pathway across various settings to maximise patient experience and outcomes
  • Actively seek and respond to patient feedback to improve the patient experience across the patient pathway.
  • Provide specialist, expert clinical knowledge to clinical colleagues, patients and carers/relatives both within and outside the Trust.
  • Identify learning needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education to meet identified need.
  • Participate in the education of pre and post-registration health care professionals/medical staff.
  • Ensure compliance with regard to own mandatory training

Skills & Experience:

  • Registered Nurse Level + GI experience
  • NMC Registration and PREP requirements
  • Post Registration Qualification
  • Experience of working within the Clinical Nurse Specialist role or similar
  • Evidence of recognized management experience
  • Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures
  • Health & Safety training or similar
