We are currently recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join the theatre team at The Harborne Hospital. Part of the World’s largest private healthcare group; providing award winning primary, acute and complex care.

The Harborne Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare UK is a brand new £100million, purpose built 50 bed, multi-speciality private hospital opening in Birmingham in January 2024. Located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham campus, the hospital will have the deep clinical infrastructure, equipment and facilities and expert, experienced teams to deliver full clinical pathways across a mix of specialties and sub-specialties at all levels of complexity including Cardiology, Cancer and Complex Surgery. The Harborne Hospital is the 4th NHS partnership within this network, partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.

As the Healthcare Assistant, under the direction of the registered nurse, you will carry out observations, investigations and basic treatments as required. You will also oversee chaperoning of patients and assisting medical staff with day-to-day duties. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors, consultants and staff in a professional and welcoming manner.

  • Assist with patient care requirements under the supervision of a registered nurse.  Assess patient’s condition through basic measurements.

  • Maintain stock control and careful use of equipment

  • Ensuring patient comfort, dignity and privacy are maintained at all times and are specific to the patients’ needs.

  • Chaperoning patients and required equipment as necessary for appointments and clinic.

  • Ensure strict confidentiality is applied to all clients and staff, ensuring need to know basis is always applied.

  • Communicate care to patients, their family and/or carers using appropriate language and rationale

  • Assist in theatre and Recovery and other ultra sounded guided procedures

  • Under Direction develop skills in the instruction, advice and care of patients throughout their treatment process

  • Assists the registered nurse with appropriate clinical documentation

  • Carry out with accuracy other duties as instructed by your line manager  

  • Reports any concerns to the trained nurse in charge of the patient

  • Decontamination of instruments and clinical equipment

What you’ll bring:

  • Phlebotomy for this role is essential

  • IT literate

  • Previous experience in Healthcare Assistant experience within a hospital setting is essential

  • NVQ in Health and Social Care is essential
