We’re looking for an Environmental Sustainability Manager to join our ESG team based in London.

In this exciting role, you will be overseeing the programme of work to deliver on HCA’s environmental sustainability goals across our UK hospital network. This will include setting the corporate expectations and working with teams across sites to deliver.

You will be the central point to coordinate and promote best practice and support all facilities and stakeholders in the delivery of their own sustainability obligations as part of their own operational roles, such as waste, energy and water management, financial disclosures, environmental legal compliance, clinical care delivery, etc. You will also deputise for the Head of Environmental Sustainability when required.

This role will be crucial for the delivery of our public net zero goals. As HCA UK operates in a matrix structure, you will work across multiple teams and leverage your excellent stakeholder management and systems change skills to drive change. You will be working with teams across the organisation to embed sustainability into systems, processes, tools, governance, and internal reporting.

What you’ll do:

Operational management of environmental sustainability delivery:

  • Leading the operational delivery of net zero for HCA UK
  • Support with light touch project management for projects on sites

Reporting

  • On HCA’s annual carbon reporting, using external support where required
  • Monitoring and reporting progress against initiatives
  • Improving the tools, systems, and processes for data collection

Colleague Engagement

  • Owning the internal sustainability content hub for colleagues, and providing the communications team with relevant information
  • Supporting and encouraging colleagues to act across the organisation, and support good practice sharing and coordination across sites
  • Developing and leading engagement events at hospitals

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrative working experience within Environmental and Sustainability – ideally within healthcare. Strong understanding of sustainability concepts, particularly as they relate into healthcare.
  • Experience of Net zero/sustainability delivery in a healthcare environment - Desirable
  • A degree related to environmental and sustainability – Desirable
  • Understanding of climate risk and resilience (mitigation)
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Good Written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to motivate oneself and others. Able to work to tight deadlines and get things done.
  • Demonstrative career experience in the analysis and reporting of data – able to provide interpretation to non-technical colleagues. Ideally used to working with Power BI.
  • Experience of leading managing projects – desirable.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 - Desirable
