We’re looking for a Superintendent Radiographer to join our team at the Lister Hospital, currently rated “Outstanding” by the CQC.

The Imaging department at The Lister Hospital is UKAS accredited having been granted maintenance of the Quality Standard in Imaging for the 7th year.

The Lister Hospital campus in London encompasses two outpatients and diagnostic centre in Chelsea; the main hospital based near Chelsea Bridge; 102 Sydney Street, as well as outpatient and diagnostic centres at Battersea & Nine Elms and another in Chiswick in West London.

We are currently investing and redeveloping our Imaging department in Chelsea Outpatients, adding a new x-ray unit and an additional MRI unit onsite. This expansion will meet the growing demand for private healthcare Imaging in Chelsea.

We are looking for an exceptional clinical leader to join our Imaging leadership team. The successful post holder will undertake a major role in the redevelopment project, the recruitment and management of MRI staff, including staff appraisals, sickness management, training, retention, disciplinary matters and support of staff.

This role is responsible for the MRI at our Chelsea Outpatients site but will work closely with the Imaging Leads across our Lister campus.

The post holder will also support Imaging Management in service planning and service development, and align themselves with the department’s, and wider hospital’s goals and values.

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest quality of care is provided at all times and to provide an effective service as part of the day-to-day operation of the Imaging department
  • Carry out a full range of scans and x-rays to a high standard. Ensure high quality imaging is provided to our consultants and liaise with relevant radiologists in striving for image optimisation
  • Oversee all aspects of safety to both patients and staff, complete and review risk assessments and local rules for MRI. Lead on the observation and compliance of safety checks, procedures, and policies to ensure a safe imaging environment. Assist in the reporting and investigation of incidents
  • Line management responsibilities for radiographers
  • Provide emotional and professional support to staff
  • Be an active part in the Management Team for Imaging, attending Superintendent meetings and leading the department to support growth. Close working relationship with other superintendents to support the Imaging service as a whole
  • Coordinate scanner bookings & schedules to ensure correct bookings and optimum capacity available, manage opening times of the scanners in line with service requirements and in liaison with imaging management
  • Manage the training of radiographers in the use of the imaging equipment and maintain training within an up-to-date competency framework
  • Assist with the set up of the new MRI unit ensuring protocols are optimised and staff training is in place.
  • Be involved in the MRI Non-Ionising Radiation User Group, and report into the Local Radiation Protection Committee to ensure department is compliant with relevant legislation
  • Liaise with service engineers and bookings team in response to any equipment faults as well as routine servicing, coordinating possible contingency arrangements as part of business continuity.
  • Be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures within the radiology department and ensuring all staff work within these guidelines.

What you’ll bring:

  • HCPC registration
  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent)
  • Extensive experience in MRI desirable
  • Knowledge of processes and procedures in radiography 
  • Prior experience at the same level or experience in managing a team 
  • High level of understanding with regards to clinical governance and protocols relating to Imaging departments
