We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the Therapies Team in London Bridge. We welcome applicants from overseas who already hold an HCPC registration or who are in the process of completing this.
You will provide specialist services to patients with swallowing, communication and cognitive disorders across the London Bridge Hospital campus and will take a lead role in providing the Speech and Language service at London Bridge Hospital and will be a key member within the critical care and head and neck oncology service lines and work in an MDT setting. You will deliver a high-quality service, providing advanced advice that is clinically evidence based and in line with best practice standards. In this role you will contribute to service development and quality improvement projects, as well as relevant audit-based work and leading training sessions on evidence-based therapy.
Responsibilities:
Provide a highly specialised speech and language therapy service to patient’s communication and swallowing disorders on the acute wards, including the intensive treatment units.
Assess and treat inpatients with communication, cognitive and / or swallowing problems, and independently manage an inpatient caseload
Provide comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments for each patient, to plan and implement treatment using a goal planning system within the interdisciplinary team.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date and concise treatment records detailing the individual patient’s treatment plan and progress.
Assess patients with swallowing disorders using instrumental swallowing assessments.
Work closely with the interdisciplinary teams to ensure that an agreed care plan and patient centred goals are set and that the outcome of intervention is monitored.
Act as a SME to wider team on topics such as dysphagia, tracheostomy and communication disorders.
Attend relevant ward rounds, case conferences, team meetings and teaching sessions.
Drive the development of acute SLT services across HCA.
Maintain open channels of communication with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
Skills and Experience:
Professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
HCPC Registration or in the process of completing
Experience in using FEES or VFS assessments would be desirable
Experience working within an in-patient setting
Experience in working with ITU patients
