We are currently recruiting for a Lead Technician at The Harborne Hospital. Part of the World’s largest private healthcare group; providing award winning primary, acute and complex care.

Location: The Harborne Hospital 

Contract Type; Permanent, full time 37.5 hours

Salary range: Up to £43,156 depending on experience

About the facility:

The Harborne Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare UK is a brand new £100million, purpose built 50 bed, multi-speciality private hospital opening in Birmingham in 2023. Located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham campus, the hospital will have the deep clinical infrastructure, equipment and facilities and expert, experienced teams to deliver full clinical pathways across a mix of specialties and sub-specialties at all levels of complexity including Cardiology, Cancer and Complex Surgery. The Harborne Hospital is the 4th NHS partnership within this network, partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.

Role Overview:


The Lead Technician will be accountable for leading the development and implementation of a technician-led dispensary outpatient service in order to provide the highest standards of patient focused care

You will Lead on the Medicines Optimisation agenda and ensure accurate medicines reconciliation, evidence-based medication advice and timely discharge of patients meet the key performance indicators as agreed by the Head of Pharmacy.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure all dispensary processes adhered to and all standards met
  • Review all oral SACT patients for toxicity, recommend any changes, supply and counsel on medicines
  • Work with the senior clinical pharmacists to ensure timely completion of verification of prescription and co-ordinate all dispensing processes
  • Accuracy check all medicines
  • Manage all aspects of the Expanded Access Programmes which are live at the LOC
  • To lead and respond to all patient medicines information queries

Skills and experience

  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services and a BTEC in Pharmaceutical science (or equivalent qualification and underpinning knowledge)
  • Additional knowledge relating to information technology essential
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council Accredited Checking Technician
