Job - Specialist Dietitian (Cardiology & Nutritional Support)

Location - London Bridge Hospital & Private Care at Guy's (HCA Joint Ventures)

Contract Type - Permanent, full time hours 37.5hrs

Salary - Competitive (dependent on skills & experience). This post is equivalent to an NHS band 6 position.

Other Info - We will be able to sponsor Visa's for candidates within the EU as well as non - EU countries.

About the Post

The specialist dietitian will be supported by senior specialist dietitians to provide advanced dietetic care to cardiology, Critical Care & oncology patients. This may also involve working within the gastro-surgical ward environments. There will also be opportunities to have a supportive role within the outpatient department, aiding the outpatient team during times of high activity or staff shortage.

The successful candidate will provide a high-quality service for all allocated inpatient caseloads. They will provide dietetic advice that is clinically evidence based and in line with best practice standards and appropriate to the patient group, cultures and social contexts of patients, families and carers. The specialist dietitian will contribute to audits, service development and quality improvement projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide an efficient and effective dietetic service for inpatients at London Bridge Hospital & Private Care at Guys.

  • To manage a clinical caseload in the specialist areas of cardiology, Critical Care and oncology.

  • To provide cover for Senior Specialist Dietitians when absent.

  • To have involvement within the dietetic outpatient team, providing clinical cover as required.

  • To plan, prioritise and manage own caseload as an independent practitioner and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Contribute to hospital based multidisciplinary teams to deliver appropriate nutritional care plans for patients as required.

  • Obtain relevant clinical information concerning patient’s medical and social history from a range of sources including medical and nursing notes, other health professionals, the patient and/or their carer.

  • To provide dietetic advice to patients and / or carers, considering their social, emotional, psychological and cultural needs, whilst being able to utilise this information effectively in formulating individualised dietetic advice.

  • Have the ability to work within patient groups who may be terminally, critically or chronically ill or undergoing prolonged periods of rehabilitation. To support patients during the course of their disease or acute illness considering their emotional and nutritional needs.

Skills & Experience

  • BSc degree in dietetics or equivalent

  • Healthcare & professionals’ council (HCPC), and British dietetic association (BDA) registration

  • Experience managing cardiology, critical care & oncology patients
