SEND TEACHER

Location – The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, London

Permanent- Fulltime 37.5 hours/week

About the Role

The Portland Hospital has presented a first of it’s kind opportunity for a SEND Teacher.  The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the implementation, modification and development of the curriculum for all pupils including those with additional needs including PMLD/SLD.  With the interest of the paediatric patients you will effectively observe, assess and maintain records of each patients progress.  You will be able to use the information as the basis for curriculum planning.

Skills & Experience:

• Qualified teacher status – MPS 5+ or UPR 1+
• Consistent recent track record of teaching in a special school (UK)
• Expected to meet and sustain all the Professional Standards for Teachers.
• Awareness of appropriate approaches for children with a high level of SEND need within specialist settings
• Ability to plan, teach and adapt lessons at short notice where there may be little or no pupil information
• Able to use a range of augmented communication e.g. signing, intensive interaction, communication aids, objects of reference
• Proven track record of motivating and engaging others
• Confidence and sensitivity interacting and working alongside parents, carers and children in stressful environments
• Ability to cope with the stress of working with very sick children
