Job - Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

Location - The Wellington Hospital, London

Contract Type - Permanent, full time at 37.5 hours per week (9am - 5.15pm Monday to Friday)

Salary Range -Competitive dependent upon skills and experience. This position is equivalent to a NHS band 6

Job Description

As a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist, you will provide a high quality Speech and Language Therapy Service to in-patients with communication, cognitive and swallowing problems at the Wellington Hospital.

You will also work closely with the AHP Clinical Services Manager, the Lead Speech and Language Therapist for Rehabilitation Services and Specialist speech and language therapist to deliver high quality treatment based on quality standards and best clinical practise.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To be able to assess and treat in-patients who have communication and/or swallowing disorders.

  • To advise staff and family regarding implementation of treatment programmes for in-patients and out-patients with speech, language and swallowing disorders.

  • To be able to use or recommend instrumental assessments, with supervision (where necessary), to assess patients who have swallowing disorders.

  • To supervise treatment provided by therapy assistants within the hospital.

  • To document all assessment, treatment and progress in accordance with departmental standards

  • To be willing and able to adapt to non English speaking patients and to work closely with interpreters

  • To participate in on call rota as required

Skills & Experience

  • HCPC Registration

  • Professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy

  • Experience working with adults with a range of neurological disorders

  • Experience working with those with complex communication, cognitive and physical disabilities

  • Experience working within an in-patient setting
