About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team to provide specialist assessment and therapy to infants, children and young persons who present with acquired or developmental communication and swallowing difficulties. The role will predominantly focus on the development and provision of a high-quality service to children and families accessing support through the Children’s Inpatient Neurorehabilitation program. There will be opportunity to support clinical work in the acute inpatient and outpatient programs when the service need arises.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Specialist implementation of a range of communication assessments, and provision of intervention for paediatric patients aged 0 – 18 years-old in a range of clinical areas including neurology, neurodevelopmental medicine, general paediatrics, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology and cardiology.
  • Assess and provide intervention to infants, children and young persons with swallowing and feeding difficulties, including instrumental evaluation by Videofluoroscopy Swallowing Study
  • Develop goal directed care plans using evidence based practice and specialist knowledge, in collaboration with patients’ and their families.
  • Use excellent communication skills and effective partnership working within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify service improvement and growth opportunities, and collaboratively participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of service activities.
  • Provide support to the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist to achieve department objectives.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to speech and language therapy and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Participate in an annual appraisal program, and demonstrate the ability to reflect on own performance, and commitment to continuous professional development.

Skills & Experience

  • Professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and Registered member of HCPC.
  • Extensive experience in the field of paediatric neurology
  • Competent in Paediatric dysphagia management equivalent to RCSLT Dysphagia Competency Framework Level C: Specialist Level Dysphagia Practitioner
  • Involvement in audit and /or with service development activities
  • Experience supervising and developing colleagues
  • Competent with Videofluoroscopy Swallowing Study completion desirable but not essential
