There is accumulating evidence from around the world that the best healthcare organisations are clinician-led. Strong clinical leadership and management are critical in providing safe, effective and high quality care to patients.

In recognition of this, HCA Healthcare UK successfully launched the Chief Medical Officer Clinical Management Fellowship programme in 2017.

A fellowship programme in partnership with Cass Business School, giving ambitious doctors the skills, experiences and education to put them on the path to becoming the nations future healthcare leaders. The first fellowship in the UK tailored to Clinical Management co-designed by medics and business school experts.

The HCA UK Fellowship offers 8 promising doctors the opportunity to gain practical experience of clinical management at HCA's acute complex care hospitals alongside the education that will equip with them skills and knowledge in leadership. HCA offers; full time, 2 year fixed term employed Clinical Fellowship contract and full funding for the MSc in Clinical Management.
Job Description
Employed by HCA, Fellows will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer at HCA UK, based at one of HCA UK prestigious private hospitals of their choice in either London or Manchester and will be fully supported by a designated senior Clinical Supervisor and Managerial Mentor.

Successful Fellows will be salaried and rostered to work approx 80% of their time throughout the fellowship clinically at SPR level with 20% of rota time protected for the Master Degree and managerial development.
Fellowship contract details

- Place of work will be a HCA Healthcare UK Hospital
- Contract Hours per week; 40
- Clinical rota commitment includes a range of early lates nights and weekends shifts
- Salary: C£60000pa, dependent upon experience and specialist area of interest
- MSc will be fully funded by HCA
- Academic course programme commences September 2018, fellows are able to start their hospital clinical duties at HCA prior to this date if preferred.
- End of Fellowship August 2020.

Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical duties vary at each HCA Hospital and in each specialism however will be at the level of an SPR.
At the end of the year programme you will

- Be equipped with the healthcare management and leadership skills you need to take on independent team or service levels roles wherever you choose to work
- Have formed a strong clinical and management network following mentorship from world leading consultants and senior healthcare managers
- Have obtained an Executive Masters in Medical Leadership, which meets all Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) standards
- Working clinically at one of HCA Healthcare’s Hospitals, have gained experience of cutting edge service delivery, innovative treatments and the most advanced medical equipment.
Skills and Experience
This programme is suitable for academically strong ambitious Clinicians who specifically aspire to be future Healthcare Leaders in Clinical Management.
Doctors will need

- GMC Registration
- Demonstrate up to date training records, nationally recognised at minimum ST3 training or above or equivalent
- Specialist training in one of the following areas, relevant to the complex care HCA Hospitals provide; Oncology, Oncology Research Clinical Trials, Haematology, Critical Care/ITU. Paediatrics, PICU Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic, General Surgery.
